Suzann Pettersen takes Ladies Scottish Open lead

TROON, Scotland (AP) — Suzann Pettersen shot a 2-under 70 in windy conditions Saturday to take a two-stroke lead in the Ladies Scottish Open.
Pettersen, the 34-year-old Norwegian player ranked No. 7 in the world, had a 6-under 138 total at Dundonald Links in the final Ladies European Tour event before the Women’s British Open next week at Turnberry.
“I’m pretty happy,” Pettersen said. “It turned out to be a lot windier than we anticipated and the back nine is playing tough. It’s tough to get great chances and the front nine is more scoreable. Once you get to 12, it’s all into the wind, straight down and off the right, so it’s tough, but a good course with a lot of challenges. You’ve got to be on top of your game.”
Pettersen won the Manulife LPGA Classic last month in Canada for her 15th LPGA Tour title.
England’s Holly Clyburn was second after a 67.
Second-ranked Lydia Ko, tied with Pettersen for the first-round lead, had a 73 to drop to third at 3 under. The 18-year-old New Zealander had bogeys on Nos. 12 and 13.
“I played really well on the front nine, made a clumsy mistake on three but got myself together and played really solid,” Ko said. “I made two bogeys in a row and that got to my head a little bit. All my putts were close but just not in and when that happens you don’t know what you’re going to shoot. I’m hitting the ball OK and the putts are on line so at the end of the day it’s very small margins.”
England’s Laura Davies, recently inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame, was tied for fourth at 2 under after a 71.
