Did you miss…Arizona Rattlers make history, Arizona Diamondbacks avoid sweep

While we would all like to keep track of everything that happens in the world of sports, sometimes life gets in the way.
Curse you, life!
Anyway, we totally understand where you’re coming from. So, to try and help you out, here’s a look at what you may have missed this weekend in Arizona Sports.
Friday
• D-backs rookie Chase Anderson suffered his first career loss as Arizona fell to Clayton Kershaw and the L.A. Dodgers 4-3.
Anderson, who had won his first five starts, wasn’t his sharpest, allowing four hits and four walks in five innings of work. He only surrendered two runs, however, while striking out four.
Unfortunately for Arizona, Kershaw was his usual excellent self, tossing seven innings of one-run ball while allowing eight hits and striking out seven.
The D-backs did make it interesting in the ninth when Aaron Hill knocked an RBI single off Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen to cut the deficit in half, but that was all they’d get.
Saturday
• The Arizona Rattlers made some history when they knocked off the San Antonio Talons by a score of 70-34, as the win improved the team’s record to 13-0.
Arizona is now the first team in Arena Football League to win its first 13 games in a season. Including last season, the Rattler have won 17 in a row.
In the win, quarterback Nick Davila completed 17-of-24 passes for 232 yards and seven touchdowns and Rod Windsor led all receivers with seven catches for 96 yards and three scores. Marquis Floyd also picked off three passes.
• Paul Goldschmidt got things off to a great start with a two-run homer in the first, but Josh Collmenter struggled as the D-backs lost to the Dodgers 6-4.
The Diamondbacks’ right-hander allowed six runs on eight hits in six innings, which was a little too much for the offense, led by Goldschmidt’s home run and Martin Prado’s 3-for-4 night — including a solo homer off of Jensen — to overcome.
Oh, and there was also this nearly disastrous but definitely funny bat flip by Yasiel Puig.
Sunday
• The Phoenix Mercury hit the road and knocked off the Minnesota Lynx 80-72.
Diana Taurasi tallied 21 points and 11 assists while Candice Dupree chipped in 18 pounds and 10 rebounds.
The win improved the Mercury’s record to 7-3.
• Scottsdale resident Martin Kaymer spent most of the weekend running away with the US Open, and Sunday he clinched it with a 1-under 69.
Kaymer bested runner-up Rickie Fowler by eight shots and dominated Pinehurst for the majority of the weekend.
• The Diamondbacks avoided a sweep by breaking out the lumber in Los Angeles.
Paul Goldschmidt and Miguel Montero both homered, and the D-backs took advantage of some sloppy play from the Dodgers in a 6-3 win.
Bronson Arroyo earned his team-best seventh win by allowing just one run and five hits in five innings of work.
