The Mountain Pointe Pride, the 2013 Arizona Division I football champions, have been ranked seventh nationally by MaxPreps, a high school site that ranks more than 16,000 varsity football teams.
Mountain Pointe is one of 50 schools being honored on the ninth annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard.
The Pride, coached by Norris Vaughan, finished a perfect 14-0 season by defeating Chandler Hamilton in the state final 42-19 last November. It was the school's first state title in football since it opened in 1991.
"In partnership with the Army National Guard, MaxPreps is delighted to honor Mountain Pointe as one of fifty schools on the 2013 Football Tour of Champions," said Andy Beal, Founder and President. "We're proud to include Mountain Pointe into this elite group of teams in the country."
Mountain Pointe outscored its opponents 673-127 while registering four shutouts on the way to the state championship.
"This is the first time that any Arizona team has been ranked in the top ten. We are honored for our players, our team and the school. The town is on fire about this award," Vaughan said.
