Grant Hill: I do have a desire to play

July 11, 2012: Suns free agent discusses his options

While the Suns and Steve Nash decided to part ways, the same cannot be said of the Suns and Grant Hill. Not yet, anyway.

"He's obviously welcome back here if we can have him back," said Suns president of basketball operations Lon Babby. "He would be a great asset for us with the group we're bringing in but he's got to do what's best for him.

"I wouldn't speak for him," continued Babby. "I didn't when I represented him and I'm certainly not now."

Hill has been quiet on the subject since the season ended. However, he broke his silence earlier Wednesday.

"I am a free agent and I do have a desire to play," he told NBA TV. "I'm just sort of sorting through it, trying to figure it out. [I] definitely have options. We'll have to wait and see."

Hill, who joined the network for its coverage of a behind-the-scenes look at the USA Basketball Men's National Team's practice, is reported to be receiving interest from Miami, Oklahoma City and the L.A. Lakers.

"You want to win. You want to play," said the 18-year veteran. "You watch the (NBA) Finals this past year. You see Miami. You see what they accomplished. You want to experience that. I've been lucky to experience it in the Olympics and in college twice. But you know there's a lot of variables involved with winning. Everyone can now can say 'Oh, Miami will definitely win' but it's a tough road to get to a championship."

Hill has said he would like to play at least another year, perhaps two, as long as his right knee will allow for more action. But whether that means staying in Phoenix, where he's been the last five seasons, or heading elsewhere, that's a decision he's not quite ready to make.

"I don't know," he said "I'm honestly---I don't know what I want to do. I haven't really---I feel like I've been more of a spectator through this process. But I know soon enough I have to make a decision."
