Hollywood ending for D-backs farm club
The Osprey (the Rookie-level affiliate of the Diamondbacks) trailed the Billings Mustangs 9-0 after four and a half innings. Chalk it up to a loss, right?
Wrong. The Osprey chipped away, scoring three in the bottom of the fifth, two in the sixth, three in the seventh and three more in the eighth to take an 11-10 lead (Billings had scored a single run in the seventh).
Then things started to look bleak again in the top of the ninth when Billings' Jeff Gelalich and Matt Lentz led off the inning with back-to-back singles off of Missoula reliever Vince Spilker. Beau Amaral followed, and with the tying run on second, hit a ground ball to third baseman Jake Lamb, who stepped on the bag at third, threw to second to Daniel Pulfer, who then relayed to first baseman Tyler Bream.
A tailor-made triple play to end the game that also included a 9-run comeback. We wish we would have been in Missoula on Saturday -- and we've never said that before.
