Aaron Sele receives an unlikely Hall of Fame vote

Jan 10, 2013, 2:16 AM | Updated: 5:49 am

The Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 2013 will be rather bare this summer, as it was announced Wednesday that not a single member on the ballot received the 75 percent required for induction to Cooperstown.

While Hall of Fame voters were likely trying to send a message to Steroids era stars like Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and Sammy Sosa, their collective statement lost some validity when it was later revealed that former pitcher Aaron Sele received one vote from an unnamed writer.

Now Sele was by no means an average pitcher during his 15-year MLB career. The former big league pitcher appeared in two All-Star Games and had 147 wins to his name.

However for a pitcher that played for seven teams and had a career ERA over 4.60, he doesn’t exactly belong in baseball’s esteemed museum with Tom Seaver, Bob Gibson or Whitey Ford.

In a world where Hall of Fame voting still lacks a level of transparency, odds are we will never know which member of the BBWAA tried to sneak Sele into Cooperstown.

Nonetheless, here are some comical reactions on Twitter to Sele’s lone Hall of Fame vote:
