The Arizona State basketball program has scheduled a home-and-home series against San Diego State starting this season in Tempe.
ASU plans to face the Aztecs at Desert Financial Arena on Thursday, Dec. 10, before visiting San Diego in December of 2021.
San Diego State went 30-2 to win the Mountain West Conference in 2019-20 before the coronavirus pandemic led to a cancellation of college basketball’s postseason tournaments. Playing the Aztecs aligns with head coach Bobby Hurley’s practice of building a challenging nonconference schedule.
“This is a big part of what we do,” Hurley said in a release. “We are thrilled to match up with San Diego State the next two seasons and add them to an already challenging schedule that now includes 20 Pac-12 games.
“We take great pride in making every effort to play one of the most demanding and toughest non-conference schedules in the nation.”
ASU and SDSU last met in November 2017 with the Sun Devils coming out victorious at home by a 90-68 score.
This offseason, Arizona State has also added a home-and-home series against SMU, reports CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein. The first game in that series will also take place in Tempe this coming basketball season, and the Sun Devils will visit Dallas in 2021-22.
The rest of the nonconference schedule for ASU is highlighted by a Dec. 2 visit to Creighton, a Dec. 19 game in Phoenix against BYU at Talking Stick Resort Arena and participation in the Diamond Head Classic (Dec. 22-23, 25), which has a tournament field including San Diego State, Saint Mary’s and Oklahoma.
