Tasker thinks Norwood’s miss changed Bills fortunes

Jan 30, 2013, 3:20 PM | Updated: 3:36 pm

From 1990 to 1993, the Buffalo Bills accomplished something that no other team ever had and no other team has done since — they went to four straight Super Bowls.

Sure, they lost all four, but to win four AFC championships in a row is still very impressive.

The first of the four losses came to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XXV, when Scott Norwood’s 47-yard attempt with just seconds on the clock sailed wide right and allowed the Giants to walk away with a 20-19 win.

Steve Tasker, a seven-time Pro Bowler who played in all four Bills’ Super Bowl losses who is now a CBS Sports NFL analyst, thinks that Norwood’s famous miss might have actually helped fuel Buffalo’s run to four straight title games.

“That second Super Bowl that we went to happened because that kick went wide,” Tasker told Arizona Sports 620’s Doug & Wolf Monday. “I think that’s the truth. I don’t know if we would’ve won any more or played in any more, but I know we would have never, ever gone to four Super Bowls in a row if Scott Norwood’s kick goes through.”

The Bills went on to lose to the Washington Redskins in Super Bowl XXVI which was followed by back-to-back losses to the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowls XXVII and XXVIII.
