The Arizona Diamondbacks finalized a deal with veteran catcher Rod Barajas on a minor league contract with an invite to Spring Training.

Barajas, who turned down an offer from the D-backs in December, will receive a deal worth $800,000 if he makes the team.

The D-backs will have Barajas and Wil Nieves compete to be Miguel Montero’s backup catcher in camp.

Barajas hit .206 with 11 homers and 31 RBI in 104 games with the Pittsburgh Pirates last season.

In his 14-year career, the 36-year-old has a .235 average with 136 homers and 480 RBI. He spent the first five seasons of his career with the D-backs.
