New Phoenix Suns general manager Ryan McDonough said there has been “good progress” in the search for a head coach, as he has a good list of options to choose from.
According to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski, the team has been granted permission to interview L.A. Lakers assistant Steve Clifford as well as Houston Rockets assistant J.B. Bickerstaff.
Clifford, who just wrapped up his first season in Tinseltown, had previously spent five seasons with the Orlando Magic. Known as a defensive-minded coach, he has also spent time as an assistant in Houston as well as the New York Knicks.
Bickerstaff, who would be young for a head coach at 34, has also reportedly interviewed for head coaching jobs with the Milwaukee Bucks and Detroit Pistons.
The son of former NBA coach Bernie Bickerstaff, J.B. spent three years with on the Charlotte Bobcats’ staff and four years as a Minnesota Timberwolves assistant before joining the Rockets in 2012.
