Report: Coyotes defenseman Rostislav Klesla diagnosed with concussion, whiplash

Just 60 minutes into their preseason schedule, the Phoenix Coyotes have already been hit with their first noteworthy injury of 2013-14.

During the first period of Phoenix’s 4-2 victory Sunday at Jobing.com Arena, Los Angeles Kings forward Jordan Nolan left his feet before connecting with the head of Coyotes defenseman Rostislav Klesla on an open-ice hit.

After the collision, Klesla laid motionless on the ice before being carted off on a stretcher.

While the NHL is currently reviewing video of Nolan’s role on the play, the Coyotes reportedly received news on the health of Klesla Monday.

According to Fox Sports Arizona’s Craig Morgan, the 31-year-old sustained a concussion and whiplash, and currently is resting at his home.

In 38 games last season, Klesla had eight total points (six assists and two goals) and an even plus-minus.
