Broncos and Jaguars engage in small Twitter beef ahead of Sunday’s game

Oct 7, 2013, 7:19 PM | Updated: 7:19 pm

The Denver Broncos have been really, really good through the first five games of the 2013 season.

Following Sunday’s thrilling 51-48 victory in Dallas, the Broncos became just the fourth NFL team to score 50 or more points in consecutive games.

Quarterback Peyton Manning is on pace to shatter the single-season record for touchdowns with 64. The offense is on pace to shatter the single-season record for points scored with 736. And the perfect 16-0 regular season is still on the table, as well.

On second thought, they haven’t just been really, really good, they’ve been historically good.

But apparently the Broncos aren’t in the mood to just let their play do the talking.

Monday, the team’s Twitter account posted an alarming statistic that more or less was intended to needle their upcoming opponent, the Jacksonville Jaguars.

If the Broncos have been historically good this season, well, the Jaguars have been almost the complete opposite.

Heading into Sunday’s game at Sports Authority Field, the Jaguars are the AFC’s lone winless team. They’ve averaged a league-worst 10.2 points per game. And they lost first-round pick Luke Joeckel to a season-ending high ankle fracture.

Their social media department, however, was none too pleased with Denver’s jab.

The Broncos, playing better defense than they did against Tony Romo in Sunday’s victory, didn’t mind getting the last laugh in the brief Twitter battle.

It seems Las Vegas betters are firmly in the Broncos’ corner. Denver is a 28-point favorite to win Sunday — the largest point spread in NFL history.
