The Arizona Diamondbacks announced on Twitter Tuesday that former star outfielder Luis Gonzalez has been placed on the 2014 Hall of Fame ballot by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.

Gonzalez was one of 19 players who made their first appearance on the ballot.

The writers are to cast their votes by Tuesday, Dec. 31, and the results will be announced Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, on the MLB Network and the Hall of Fame and BBWAA websites.

Gonzalez played 18 years in the Majors, compiling 2,591 hits, 354 home runs and 1,439 RBI while batting .283. He spent eight seasons with Arizona and had his breakout year in 2001, in which he slugged 57 homers and 142 RBI during the regular season and helped lead the D-backs to their only championship in team history.
