By the Numbers: Suns rout league-leading Pacers

Jan 23, 2014, 6:42 AM | Updated: 6:49 am

If the Phoenix Suns were looking at Wednesday’s matchup with the league-leading Indiana Pacers as some sort of midterm, consider the test passed with flying colors.

The Suns blew past the Pacers en route to a 124-100 blowout win Wednesday at U.S. Airways Center, a game in which the outcome was never really in doubt.

In the teams’ first meeting since a three-player trade this offseason, former Pacer went off against his former team while a former Sun was quiet against his.

Here’s a closer look at the blowout win by the numbers:

1:

The Pacers own the NBA’s No. 1 record at 33-8, and Wednesday’s blowout matched their worst loss of the season.

4:

Phoenix limited Indiana center Roy Hibbert to just four rebounds before he fouled out after 28 minutes of action. He scored just six points on 3-of-8 shooting.

5:

Former Sun Luis Scola scored just five points in 15 minutes during his return to Phoenix.

6:

Former University of Arizona star Solomon Hill saw his first action since Dec. 8, 2013, hitting his only field goal attempt for two points in six minutes.

10:

Phoenix turned the ball over 10 times, but was able to keep Indiana from turning those into easy points. The Pacers just scored 10 points off turnovers, while the Suns turned 21 takeaways into 27 points.

23:

Former Pacer Gerald Green scored a team-high 23 points — 18 of which came in the firs thalf — in his first matchup with Indiana since being traded this offseason.

62:

The Suns scored 62 points in each half — more than the Pacers and their No. 1 defense in the NBA had allowed in a half before Wednesday’s game.

68.8:

The Suns shot 68.8 percent from 3-point range on 11-of-16 shooting. The Suns’ starters went a combined 8-of-11, and center Miles Plumlee was the only one of that group to not hit from deep.
