The Arizona Diamondbacks have yet to put together a complete game in the young 2014 season.

They didn’t muster a run in the season opener. They fell in a big deficit before mounting a late rally in their second game. They built a big lead in their third game — then lost it. They fell in a four-run hole in their fourth game before mounting a comeback.

Then Wednesday, despite a strong outing from Trevor Cahill, the D-backs’ offense went dormant en route to a 2-0 loss at home to the San Francisco Giants in which Arizona mustered just 3 hits.

Here’s a closer look at the loss, by the numbers:

2

Cahill has lost his first two starts of the season for the second straight year. He allowed five runs in four innings in his season debut before allowing two runs in six innings Wednesday.

3

The D-backs’ three hits are their fewest of this season, and they mustered three or fewer hits just six times in 2013.

12

Cahill, who has battled command and control issues throughout his D-backs tenure, threw a fist-pitch strike to just 12 of the 25 batters he faced Tuesday.

24

Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt extended his MLB-best hitting streak to 24 games with a seventh-inning double, tying Tony Womack for the second-longest hitting streak in franchise history. Luis Gonzalez holds the team record at 30.

3

D-backs reliever Ryan Rowland-Smith threw his first MLB pitch in more than three seasons — his last appearance came on Oct. 2, 2010. He allowed a hit and a walk in a scoreless inning.

206

Giants pitcher Tim Hudson recorded his 206th career win in his San Francisco debut, making him the MLB active leader in wins. He was previously tied with C.C. Sabathia at 205.
