Fan storms field at Cubs-Diamondbacks game, tries to elude security

Jul 19, 2014, 5:29 PM | Updated: 5:29 pm

Some shenanigans held up the ending of Friday night’s Chicago Cubs and Arizona Diamondbacks game at Chase Field.

In the top of the ninth inning with Arizona leading by one, one fan apparently thought it would be fun to take the field and run around the outfield.

A Deadspin video shows the fan initially tried to take a run-by selfie with Diamondbacks outfielder Gerardo Parra.

The hooligan, who had on a red T-shirt and Arizona State gym shorts, then proceeded to dodge three security officers before finally sliding to the ground and being apprehended, getting his shirt ripped in the process. One fan posted video of that sequence to Instagram on Friday.

The crowd was in an uproar as the young man evaded security officers with Barry Sanders-like moves. Hard to tell if other fans were cheering him on or deriding him.

Fortunately, security eventually removed the fan from the field, and the Diamondbacks held on for a 5-4 victory.

The scene was all too reminiscent of a “The King of Queens” episode that revolved around a New York Mets game.
