Report: Arizona Cardinals to work out Isaac Sopoaga

Aug 19, 2014, 10:27 PM | Updated: 10:28 pm

The Arizona Cardinals were dealt an unfortunate blow Monday when they lost veteran defensive lineman Darnell Dockett to a season-ending ACL tear.

Now the question becomes, how do they fill that hole on their D-line?

Veteran Frostee Rucker will step in and likely take over the starting position, with support provided by rookies Kareem Martin and Ed Stinson.

However, the Cardinals are reportedly looking around for some free agent help just a little more than two weeks away from the season opener.

There were reports that general manager Steve Keim extended an offer to former Pittsburgh Steeler Brett Keisel, but Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says that’s not going to happen.

According to Yahoo! Sports NFL insider Rand Getlin, the Cardinals are looking elsewhere for help.

Sopoaga, 32, is a ten-year veteran who spent nine seasons with the San Francisco 49ers and split last year between New England and Philadelphia.

A former fourth-round pick of the 49ers out of Hawaii, Sopoaga stands 6-foot-2 and weighs in at 330 pounds. He’s primarily a run-stuffer, but has 8.5 sacks to his credit in 139 career games.

The Patriots cut Sopoaga in March just one year into a three-year contract in a move that saved the team $2.5 million in cap space.
