Arizona Wildcats junior linebacker Scooby Wright has quickly established himself as one of college football’s greats.
The national media has taken notice, as Athlon Sports named Wright as college football’s fourth-best player for 2015.
Wright wasn’t a huge prospect on the recruiting trail, but the California native has blossomed into one of college football’s best defenders. The 6-foot-1 linebacker started 12 games as a freshman in 2013 and recorded 83 stops. Wright was even more dominant in 2014, posting a whopping 163 tackles (29 for a loss), 14 sacks and six forced fumbles.
Wright was the highest-ranked player from the Pac-12, sitting behind Ohio State’s Joey Bosa, the Buckeyes’ quarterbacks and Florida State’s Jalen Ramsey.
Other Pac-12 entries in Athlon’s top 50 are USC’s Cody Kessler (No. 17), UCLA’s Myles Jack (21), USC’s Max Tuerk (35), USC’s Adoree’ Jackson (36), USC’s Su’a Cravens (39), Cal’s Jared Goff (47) and Oregon’s DeForest Buckner (48).
