Over the course of a 162-game regular season, it’s a given that every team in Major League Baseball is going to suffer its fair share of injuries. However, it’s expected that those injuries will take place during the rigors of competitive play on the field, not during a routine warm-up prior to first pitch.
For Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher Randall Delgado, the latter took place just before Tuesday’s tilt with the Mariners in Seattle, as Delgado crumpled to the turf after sustaining a freakish ankle injury while through pre-game workouts at Safeco Field.
Considering the agony Delgado was in upon suffering the injury, it was a relief when D-backs manager Chip Hale revealed after Arizona’s 8-4 victory that Delgado only suffered a sprained ankle.
The bad news? It will land Delgado on the 15-day disabled list.
#Dbacks will place Randall Delgado on the 15-day DL with an ankle sprain and recall Addison Reed from Triple-A Reno @Aces.

In 41 appearances this season, Delgado has posted a 4-3 record with a 2.79 ERA and one save.
In his place, the D-backs will recall Addison Reed from Triple-A Reno; the much maligned pitcher who has compiled a 2-2 record and three saves in 25 appearances for Arizona this season, but has also blown two saves this season while watching his ERA balloon to 5.92 in relief duty.
