GLENDALE, Ariz. — Sunday’s training camp practice drew fewer than the 12,000 fans Saturday’s did, but even still, the Arizona Cardinals had a good crowd on hand to watch their second workout. It’s also the final one before the pads go on, which is when things will really start to kick into high gear.

The Good

QB Carson Palmer once again looked razor sharp. He was threading passes into tight windows with good zip as well as showing accuracy on passes down the field.

Receiver J.J. Nelson looked good for the second consecutive day, using his speed to get by defensive backs and showing good hands. Trevor Harman also made some nice grabs.

Running back Kerwynn Williams made a nice catch on a Palmer pass down the sideline. Tight Ifeanyi Momah also looked pretty good on some throws, using his incredible size to his advantage.

Tyrann Mathieu tipped away a pass intended for Larry Fitzgerald during red zone work.

The Bad

Running back David Johnson pulled up a little lame following a nice run late in practice. He walked off the field with a trainer and was not seen again.

Noted

The Cardinals showed a good number of six and seven-defensive back looks on defense.

Quoted

“Now I feel like a decent right guard, so it’s time to become a pretty good right guard and continue to progress until I feel like a great right guard.” – Jonathan Cooper on the move from left guard to right guard.

“They both have a lot of experience in this system.  They both look like little refrigerators.  They look a lot alike and they play a lot alike, smart and stuff.  It’ll be one of those things, don’t miss any practice, don’t get hurt.” – head coach Bruce Arians on competition at center between A.Q. Shipley and Ted Larsen

“Earl Watford had a great spring.  He’s fighting to get on the field, and my job — I got to find him a spot to get on the field because he’s playing pretty well right now, whether it be fullback, tight end, an extra lineman somewhere because he can run so fast for a lineman and catch the ball.  I toyed with the idea of putting him at tight end in the spring, but we had so many young tight ends that we needed to look at.” – Arians on third-year guard Earl Watford

A Highlight (thanks to @AZCardinals)

Also…

Former Arizona Wildcat Shaquille Richardson, who was signed on Friday, said if he is going to make the team, he will do so not because of his cover skills.

“All new players have to play special teams, so I’m focusing on special teams and doing what I can to help the team,” he said.

Up Next

The Cardinals will be back on the field Monday for another walkthrough in the morning and then an afternoon practice, which is open to the public, at 2 p.m.
