Arizona Cardinals guard Mike Iupati will likely require arthroscopic surgery on his left knee that will keep him out 6-8 weeks, according to sources of ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

By that timetable, the team’s expected starter at left guard would miss at least the first three games of the season — against New Orleans, Chicago and San Francisco — and could also sit out games against St. Louis and Detroit in the first two weeks of October.

Iupati, the Cardinals’ biggest free agent signing this offseason, left the 49ers to sign a five-year, $40 million deal ($22.5 million guaranteed) with Arizona.

He did not participate during practice Wednesday and was undergoing tests on his knee.

Without Iupati, the Cardinals wwould likely turn to sixth-year veteran Ted Larsen, who started 16 games with Arizona last season.

The injury only adds to a series of questions along the Cardinals’ offensive line.

The team will begin the season without starting right tackle Bobby Massie following his DUI arrest and resulting suspension. Arizona also has an ongoing competition for its starting center spot.
