Doce Fire fight bill grows to $3.2 million

PRESCOTT, Ariz. -- Fire officials are urging residents northwest of Prescott to consider buying flood insurance as a wildfire burns in the area.

The Doce Fire has charred nearly 11 square miles of dense brush and timber in the Granite Mountain Wilderness. More than 460 homes in the valleys below have been evacuated.

The lack of vegetation creates a major risk of flooding. Officials have said that many insurance policies take effect 30 days after they're purchased and want residents to think ahead.

The blaze was 15 percent contained Friday, three days after it started. It has cost $3.2 million to fight so far, largely because of air support.

Incident commander Tony Sciacca says wind gusts of up to 30 mph will continue to challenge firefighters throughout the weekend.
