PHOENIX -- The only member of the Granite Mountain Hotshots to survive the Yarnell Hill Fire that killed his 19 fellow team members on June 30 says he won't second-guess the decisions that his colleague made that day.

Brendan McDonough told KNPX that he'd welcome any lessons learned from the yet-to-be-released report from the official investigation.

But McDonough says he won't question the decisions that his colleagues made and stands by his colleagues.

McDonough was serving as the team's lookout on a nearby ridge when shifting winds drove flames that forced him to retreat.

Winds then blew flames over the position of the rest of the team after they descended down a ridgeline and into a brush-filled canyon.
