'Divergent' trailer debuts during MTV VMAs

The first trailer for "Divergent" debuted during the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, Aug. 25. The movie is based on Veronica Roth's 2011 young adult novel, which has been compared to "The Hunger Games."

According to the film's IMDb page:

In a future world people are divided into factions based on personality, a teenager is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, her life is threatened.

Shailene Woodley of "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" plays the lead role of Beatrice Prior. Kate Winslet, Maggie Q and Zoe Kravitz also star in the film, which is directed by Neil Burger ("The Illusionist," "Limitless").

"Divergent" is set to hit theaters in March 2014.
