On Wednesday, Ariel Helwani of UFC Tonight revealed a light heavyweight matchup between former Strikeforce champion Rafael ‘Feijao' Cavalcante and Power MMA Show co-host Ryan Bader is currently being targeted for UFC 174 in Vancouver.
Feijao (12-4, 1 NC) is perhaps best known for his successful run under the Strikeforce banner where he earned victories over notable fighters such as Muhammed Lawal and Yoel Romero. He is coming off a first-round knockout victory over Igor Pakrajac at UFC Fight Night 32 last November. Prior to this win, fans saw him lose his UFC debut to Thiago Silva by way of first-round knockout.
The Brazilian was originally linked to a proposed bout with former Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix champion Daniel Cormier before it was revealed Cormier would be facing fellow Olympian Dan Henderson instead.
Bader (16-4), currently the ranked number 10 at 205-pound according to the official Power MMA rankings, is coming off a dominant decision victory over Anthony Perosh at UFC Fight Night 33 in Australia back in December. Prior to this victory the former ASU wrestling All-American was on the receiving end of a first-round knockout loss to current number-one contender Glover Teixeira in the main event of UFC Fight Night 28. If Bader can pick up the victory against the former champion, it will be the first time he has earned back-to-back victories in more than two years.
UFC 174 is scheduled for June 14 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia. No main event has been announced for this event but a potential number one contender bout between welterweights Tyrone Woodley and Rory MacDonald has been discussed.
