Diamondbacks dedicate Brad Ziegler Field in Prescott

May 17, 2014, 1:57 AM | Updated: 1:57 am

The Arizona Diamondbacks dedicated Brad Ziegler Field in Prescott, Ariz., on Friday.

The 34-year-old relief pitcher, who joined the team in 2011, is having a strong 2014 campaign, boasting a 2.53 ERA with 17 strikeouts and 9 holds over 21.1 innings. He recently recorded a 19-game scoreless streak — throwing 18.1 innings in that span — which is tied for the longest streak by an MLB reliever this season.

The team said Ziegler is very active in the community. He leads the nonprofit foundation Pastime for Patriots, which gives active and retired members of the military opportunities to attend MLB games. It also provides educational-based financial assistance to military children as well as family friendly activities for servicemen and servicewomen.

Ziegler Field is the 34th to be named after a Diamondbacks player, including the first in 2014 and the first in Prescott.

“Last year was one we will never forget, and we understand our responsibility to the community and state of Arizona,” said D-backs President Derrick Hall in a press release. “Brad brings leadership to the clubhouse and the bullpen and comes in every day with ideas on how to make our team better, our organization better and our community better. He is someone who truly cares, and we are proud to have his name on this field.”

With support from Arizona Public Service Co. (APS) and charitable contribution from D-backs players, the new or refurbished 34 baseball fields represent a community investment of more than $10 million, the team said.

“I am honored to have my name on this field with the 19 on the wall in center field. And just to be a part of that is really special,” Ziegler said.

Ziegler Field is located at 1185 Commerce Dr. in Prescott.
