Best of 2013

Note: This is part of a series of posts you'll see over the next week or so on We had a panel of 16 voters, including all of our on-air personalities, cast votes in several categories like Athlete of the Year, Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, Best Moment of the Year and many others.

When you live in a sports market like Phoenix, there are hundreds of options every year for the title of "Game of the Year."

Half of our panel of voters thought one game stood out above the rest in 2013.

At one point, the game between 14th-ranked UCLA and 17th-ranked Arizona State looked like it would be a rout. The Sun Devils exploded for 21 second-quarter points, building a 35-13 halftime lead.

But the Bruins fought back. UCLA freshmen Myles Jack and Paul Perkins each had touchdown runs in the third quarter to pull their team within eight points at 35-27. ASU answered with a 28-yard field goal from Zane Gonzalez to stretch ASU's advantage back to 11 points.

UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley found Shaquelle Evans on a 27-yard scoring strike with 11:25 left, but the Bruins couldn't convert the two-point conversion, leaving ASU up 38-33.

After an ASU punt, UCLA drove deep into Sun Devil territory, but Hundley was sacked on 3rd and 6 from the ASU 7-yard line, forcing a 38-yard field goal attempt from Ka'imi Fairbairn, which he missed

ASU would punt back to UCLA four plays later and the Bruins got into ASU territory before being pushed backward on consecutive holding penalties. Facing a 4th down and 35 from their own 30-yard line, Hundley hit Jordan Payton for 16 yards -- far short of the first down.

The win was the first in Pasadena for the Sun Devils since 2007, and more importantly, clinched their first-ever Pac-12 South title.

Here's how our panel voted:

Tyler Bassett: ASU beats UCLA to clinch Pac-12 South
