Motivation Monday: What motivates Dave Burns

Mondays are not particularly popular among people, and why should they be? Generally at the start of the work week, most find themselves yearning for the weekend that was as well as the one that seems so very far away.

But we press on nonetheless.

Motivation comes in many forms for many people, but everyone of us who gets out of bed and takes on the day does so with some goals in mind.

On social media, those goals are collected in what is known as #MotivationMonday. Here’s what motivates Dave Burns on this Monday:

My family (but not the way you think)

If the question is “what motivates me on this Monday” it will always be — no matter if it’s a Monday or Friday — my family. We all want to provide for our loved ones and I’m no different. It goes a little deeper than that for me. Sports has become the central nervous system of the Burns house; in this house the game was always on. It had to be on. Kids are incredibly adaptable and they adapted. I taught them to keep score because they wanted to learn. We’ve planned vacations around seeing ballparks. We’ve made memories at every local venue in Phoenix. We interrupt family vacations to watch the Home Run Derby. Now my daughter plays club volleyball, my son is going to continue his baseball life as a college player at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This central nervous system has done more than provide for my family, in many ways it has defined it.

There. Feel better? It's okay if you don't 100 percent better. After all, the Cardinals' win was against Jets and Ryan Fitzpatrick.

What is it about expectations in this town, anyway? The minute you attach the slightest anticipation of success to a team around here, it's like handing a brick to the guy in the lake.
