Former Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher made the decision on Friday to take the reins for the St. Louis Rams, turning down an offer made by the Miami Dolphins.

Fisher did not coach this past season, as he was fired from the Titans in January 2011 after spending 16 seasons with the team. He has a coaching record of 142-120 and led the team to four division championships. Fisher also suffered a 23-16 loss to the Rams and Kurt Warner's MVP performance in the 1999 Super Bowl.

Moving to the NFC West means the Arizona Cardinals will have a coach in their division that relies heavily on defense and carries a record of 2-2 against them since 1994.

The last time they met, Arizona lost 20-17 after Vince Young led the Titans 99 yards in the final 2:37, finding Kenny Britt for a TD as time expired.

The Cardinals' wins against Fisher came in 1994, after the coach took over the then-Houston Oilers on an interim basis, and in 2005, when Josh McCown led the Cardinals to a 20-10 victory at Sun Devil Stadium.

Fisher's hiring in St. Louis can boost the power of the NFC West, as he is the fourth head coach in the division with playoff experience under his belt.

The 2-14 Rams have the second pick in the 2012 NFL Draft and a young quarterback in Sam Bradford, who has yet to see a winning season since coming from the University of Oklahoma in 2010.

Fisher also has the chance of hiring his own general manager and the opportunity of rebuilding a franchise that has not had a winning record since 2003.

    If the choice was
The Rams hiring Fisher and us keeping Horton, or the Rams hiring Horton and us having to find a new DC, I'd rather keep Horton and take our chances against Fisher.

    NFC WEST
The NFC West has been an incredibly weak division for some time. The NFC West is always struggling compared to the other divisions in the league and is usally listed as the worst division. Maybe with Fisher in St. Louis, Harbaugh in San Francisco and even Carrol in Seattle, the NFC West can be recognized as a true contending league. Within a couple of years I see the NFC West as the division to beat. Of course the Cardinals WILL BE the NFC WEST CHAMPIONS.

    IDK ABOUT THAT AZSPORTSFAN...
SF's defense hits hard enough to take mothersuckers out the game! Did you see that hit on Pierre Thomas??? They have a above average QB that is developing into a good QB because of the consistant run game (A. Smith & F. Gore). And their WR's are coming along as well. So they're about 2 years ahead of where AZ needs to be to even contend! I'd keep that WILL BE NFC WEST CHAMPIONS comment to yourself until THEY ARE NFC WEST CHAMPIONS. Because as far as I can see, they have a lot of work to do to catch up to SF.

Yes, the 9'ers have a pretty good team but I don't think they are two years ahead of us. I believe we did beat them on Dec 11th ... 21-19. Any team can be beat on any given day. What I was saying is that the NFC WEST will be considered as a real NFL contender in a couple of years and not the laughing stock of the NFL. (Did you not read that part?) Yes, I do believe the Cardinals will be the next NFC WEST CHAMPIONS. I also don't think the 49ers will make the Superbowl
