There has been plenty of talk about the Cardinals and a possible interest in Peyton Manning, but according to Marc Sessler of NFL.com, the team may have interest in a different passer in the coming weeks.

Green Bay's Matt Flynn, who has impressed in a limited number of starts, figures to latch on somewhere as a starting quarterback, and while the Dolphins, Browns, Redskins and Seahawks all figure to be in on the QB, this is a road the Cardinals already traveled once before.

Still, as Sessler writes:

The Jets could pursue a free-agent passer and don't count out the Cardinals.

Arizona, of course, took the bait on last year's big free- agent arm, Kevin Kolb, paying him $63 million over five years, only to watch him go 2-6 as a starter.

Would the Cardinals really cut last year's Kevin Kolb, Kolb, in favor of this year's version?

Doubtful.

Though Flynn is just 26 and has shown some serious skill in limited action, the very fact that Kolb struggled last year would give anyone pause on handing the unproven signal caller a big contract -- especially the Cardinals.

Flynn may have all the tools to become a good starting quarterback for an NFL team, and chances are good some team will take a chance on him this summer.

Just don't expect that team to be the Arizona Cardinals.

    Flynn
Couldn't agree more with you. I don't see the Cards taking a flyer on Flynn. Unless its Manning, we are stuck with Kolb and Skelton for now

    Not happening
I remember talk that we should go after Flynn back in last years off season. It was believed that he could have been had for less then Kolb or Orton, while having as much upside as Kolb. We didn't do it, however, and while Flynn's upside may have risen a little higher then Kolbs of late, I think they're still nearly identical. Still two youngsters, starting to get to the end of being considered 'young', who many scouts believe have talent, but who haven't really proven anything. If kolb flops next year and skelton doesn't improve, then we look for a new QB, as is, we seem pretty set.

    "pretty set" isn't a phrase I'd use
We got a bunch of maybes coming into this season. Kolbs health, Skeltons lack of experience. We may not be as bad off as other teams at QB but we're far from being pretty set, in my book. No disrespect intended Dan. Flynn could enter into the mix, wonder if the Cards brass are talking to Peterson about Flynn and whether his big game for the Packers could be common or a fluke. But either way we need a 3rd QB in the mix.

    No 3rd QB
Cards won't bring in a 3rd QB. Only possible option is drafting a QB late, such as 5th or 6th rd, but I don't even see that. No way they're going to spend any decent amount of money on any FA QB with a chance of taking the job. I'd put good money on our QB roster being exactly the same as last year - Kolb/Skelton/Bartel.

And start the whole learning curve again?
Yeah, I don't think so. Kolb in just terms of understanding the offense would be far better than Flynn. Plus, we now know more about Kolb and what he does well so that we can tailor more of the offense around him. Plus he has had a long time to study our offense and will be or should be raring to go this off season in terms of preparedness. Can't see the Cards starting that whole learning process over unless it is with a "master" such as Peyton who would also be "like" an offensive co-ordinator to our offense.

    Agreed
Once Coach Wiz commits to something.....He's a Pit Bull when it comes to changing his mind. The only way Kolb will be gone is if Mikey does the deal over Wiz's head. I think given enough time we've got two guys that can grow into solid qb's ( Gotta think big picture, down the road not short term band aid approach here.) Cards need to get a good O Line put together. Do that, and you gotta contender!

    Uh, no
Limited body of work, flashes of brilliance, high upside? The Cards just did this dance last year. No way they are dumping Kolb just to do it all over again this year. Unless Manning falls into their laps, Kolb's the guy for now.

    Flynn is better then Kolb
Flynn should have been the quarterback before Kolb. However, when you mentioned his name to the local media (Asher) he was like I am a LSU fan but I not sure on Flynn. Well Kolb is one concussion from retirement. In my opinion Flynn should be the Cards quarterback and not Kolb but then Asher what do I know. PS. If they resign Levi Brown Kolb will be filing retirement papers.

    Whiz
The problem I see with Whiz is, he is too loyal to the players. He does not seem to have the backbone to pull guys when they do not produce, but simply makes excuses for them.
