Report: Cardinals talking contract with Peyton Manning

Mar 13, 2012, 5:42 PM | Updated: 6:50 pm

Peyton Manning has spent much of the last week visiting
with teams, talking football with coaches and trying to
figure out where he’d be a good fit.

One thing that had not been brought up was a contract,
though that may have changed.

According to the Denver Post, several teams in the
“Manning Sweepstakes” have been in discussions with agent
Tom Condon.

Talks are no more than preliminary, though, because
Manning has not yet decided where he will finish his
career and wants to take today to rest, work out and clear
his mind, according to two NFL sources.

As far as contract negotiations go, this one may be one of
the quickest and most painless in history. Manning is
going to get paid, with an annual salary possibly reaching
the $20 million range.

Everyone knows that, though, and would not even be
considering signing the 36-year-old QB if they were unsure
of paying that amount.

Really, is anyone planning to low-ball the QB, hoping to
land him at a discount rate? Not likely.

Assuming the money is equal, it will all come down to
where Manning feels most comfortable, and what team has
the best chance to win while he’s there.
