The Arizona Cardinals went into the offseason with some holes to fill.

A month into the process, not much has changed.

While the Cardinals did a good job of retaining their own guys, save Richard Marshall who left for Miami, there are some who doubt adding William Gay and Adam Snyder to a group that includes Early Doucet and Levi Brown has made the Cardinals any better than they were at the end of last season.

Matt Williamson, in an ESPN Insider story, is one such person, as he gave the Cardinals a "D" when grading how every team has fared in free agency.

The Cardinals lost very little in free agency -- unless you count Peyton Manning among those losses. They also didn't add a lot and were strapped with financial issues, which really curtailed their ability to spend in free agency. Campbell needed to be franchised and is now a cornerstone player in this organization. Gay and Doucet will have starter/depth value, but the Cardinals' offensive line still looks like one of the worst in all of football. It would be surprising if Arizona wasn't proactive in drafting offensive linemen this draft.

True, it would seem the Cardinals are practically forcing themselves to take an offensive lineman early in this month's draft, possibly making them reach for a position of need rather than taking the best available player.

However, this is a team that finished last season winning seven of its final nine games, leading many to feel there is plenty of talent already on the roster.

And, if that's the case, perhaps wholesale changes were not necessary to begin with.

Cards not the old Bidwell, but not who
M.Bidwell says they are either. IMO Cards would not be improving their line with Martin or Adams, both have strength issues and major deficits in pass protection. Also both R A reach either one would be at the #13 spot. Just what the Cards need and Grimm as well; another Levi Brown choice. Why they are not pursueing a FA OT is obvious [money] so why were we as fans sold a bill of goods regarding Manning. If we can not afford a OT how could we have even spoken to Manning and his 20M/y salary? They lied to us that is how. Manning was, for the Cards, a PR stunt; never a reality

    Great QBs mask bad OLs
Its become more and more clear to me that the Cards hope for improving the O-Line wasn't to get better OL players, but to get a QB who was better at reading blitz, aka manning. People forget, this line was pretty much just as bad, arguably even worse as Levi actually started to look some what okay last year, as it was the year Warner took us to the super bowl. Despite that, we not only made it too, but almost won, a super bowl, largely do to Warner's absurdly quick release and almost inhuman ability to read the blitz.

    The good news..
Learning to read the blitz is something that tends to come with experience, something Kolb and Skelton both have more of this year then they did a year ago. Does that mean they'll make the OL look better, not necessarily, but if Levi does continue to play better and Kolb (or skelton) do show some improved ability to read blitzes, we might not look nearly as bad as we did most of last year even if we don't get anyone in the draft. And yet, that said, I really do hope they trade down and get some one in this draft, cause I have a feeling they will pull another levi and reach otherwise...

    Trade the pick
They need to trade their pick and move down in the draft and pick up a 2nd rounder. I have faith in the Cards though as they have proven last year they will go with the Best Player Available, a much better way to draft (rather than for need, ahem, Levi over AP). They should grab David DeCastro if he's there. That guy will be a stud.

You build a team through the draft
I don't care about free agency scorecards. What do you win for getting an "A" and finishing 6-10? Spending your money wisely in free agency and having a good draft allows you not to overspend.

    Wisely is the key word
Everyone is ragging the Cardinals on free agency activity for not getting a offensive line help. First off, Snyder was not a bad pickup, secondly, these same people that are grading the Cards are the same people that said Levi Brown was one of the top FA tackles. We're supposed to trust their judgement based on that stupid statement? I'd much rather have 2 draft pick tackles than the pooch-screw we've had the past 3 years. Just because free agents exist doesn't make them good pickups.

    Patrick Peterson's Talent is stupid
Why in the world would you trade your pick to get a lower pick if every cardinal fan knows we need a offence lineman. If anything trade your pick and a player to some team that's lower than 10 and get that offence lineman. P.S. patrick Peterson's Talent don't write here to get people pissed of

Yea i wasnt buying into Bidwill's
"commitment to winning". He's so full of it. I feel bad for you fans cuz u probably pay to go to 3+ games a year and its such a waste of your money. I'm saving my money to get Direct TV's NFL Sunday Ticket to watch a team besides the Cardinals. Your joking right? Do you REALLY think AZ going anywhere with that roster???? If you say yes then your full of it too.

C'mon man, nut it up, be a fan. Only sackless fans give up on a season before it starts. Keep your Direct tV, let real fans go to the games and cheer for the Cards instead of the other team. I've never seen anything so spineless in my life.

    I know, right ftizismy
They're not committed to winning, that's why they didn't resign any of their own players on this team that finished last year 7-2 including a statement win against the 9ers... oh wait, they nearly resigned everyone. Would I have liked to have seen them improve more via FA, certainly, but if improving via F-Agency was that easy, every team would do it and no one would really improve relative to each other at all. Say what you will about whether or not its the best way, but they've stuck to their steeler style of draft well, resign your own, and don't over pay for FAs.
