The Arizona Cardinals finally got their number two receiver.

The team selected Notre Dame receiver Michael Floyd with its first-round pick Thursday, adding a dynamic threat who will play opposite Larry Fitzgerald.

"I was excited when I got the call, and saw that 602-number coming in," Floyd said Thursday night during a media conference call. "I wanted to jump for joy, but I kept it calm."

A 6-foot-3, 224 pounder, Floyd hauled in 100 receptions for 1,147 yards and nine touchdowns as a senior, and tallied 271 catches for 3,686 yards and 37 touchdowns over his four years in South Bend.

With Floyd in the fold, the Cardinals have two potent receivers for opposing defenses to deal with. Fitzgerald went to bat with team officials for Floyd, and the rookie can't wait to get started learning from the NFL's best.

"He's one of the best receivers in the game," he said. "When I get down there, I'll be able to learn from one of the best."

Floyd is a combination of big and fast - he ran a 4.47 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

The receiver did have some off the field issues while in college, including being arrested for drunken driving on campus in March 2011. Floyd admitted that those issues came up during his visit and interview with the Cardinals' brass.

"I just basically told them it was a bad decision," Floyd said. "I learned from it and I moved on and I know I can't be like every other college student and do whatever a college student does, because the spotlight is on me."

    Same ole Cards
Stupid, it is that simple. 13th pick for a guy who might catch 70 balls? Stupid. Cards could have got a third rounder to do that. I cant believe these clowns have jobs working in the easiest type of business there is...a monopoly. A monkey could pick better. Floyd is a great rcvr, but he is a rcvr - dime a dozen. Winning orgs dont have elite rcvrs, they have elite QBs and or defenses. Lucky to get to 8-8 this year. Great Larry, you will get more TDs but your team will continue to be average.

In 'Average Arizona', I certainly am in the minority, and quite proud of it.

    Bahahaha!
Oh okay! Anyone willing to bet the cards go to the playoffs with this great addition? I am will to bet! They wont even come close! Bahahaha! So stupid. Look at the value by Detroit, Pitt, NE, GB..then look at the cards. Pathetic! A trade down should have been done and they should have focused on the best players in the draft, not a guy to sell tickets. 8-8 woohoo! Bahahaha! Yes I could have easily done better.

    Great pick
Larry took some vicious hits last year because the D was able to bracket him and have one safety ready to bone-crush him once the ball touched his hands. Floyd will not allow D's to play that way anymore against larry protecting him and the Cards major investment in him. Floyd also being a Minn. native and allready mentored by larry makes larry's protege that much of a better pick for the Cards. Plus, even Jaworski had Floyd as the #1WR in the draft which makes this a huge value pick

    Good pick
but we all know its one player where the cards have tons of holes to fill. They need a wide out to help Fitz to get one on one. Need to keep the safety honest. But Im not sold on Kolb. And think7urself, they did try to move down a few spots and get an early 3rd pick since we wasted it on Kolb. They made a good pick and I would not like to see Floyd with the Rams. A agree though we need an elite QB and that this team is avg at best.

    Oh So Floyd would have...
made the Rams a contender? Who cares about the Lambs or Sea chickens for that matter-they suck too. And, Fitz didnt take us to the playoffs. Again, Floyd is a great rcvr, but there was better talent on the board in positions that lead to more wins than rcvrs. Why did STL trade down? Fill holes. Xactly what Az shoulda done. How many rcvrs did the Pats take? Why didnt they move up? How bout Pitt? GB? Giants? CUZ they spend their money and picks where it counts. More thinking that leads to: 'Average Arizona'...never the bride!

Stop thinking for yourself because frankly your ignorance is embarrassing. Number one, they had no ammunition to move up so that comment is just plain dumb. Number 2, Floyd does fill a need, AZ hasn't had a legit number 2 since Boldin. You can't move down if you don't have a trade partner. I find it funny that you have bashed the pick but you have failed to mention who they should have chosen with the pick. Who was the better talent at 13?
