The Arizona Cardinals stayed true to their draft board this week, and watched it pay dividends with the players afforded to them.

One draft pick that was a bit of head scratcher was the selection of San Diego State quarterback Ryan Lindley 185th overall. While Lindley boasts a strong frame and was a consistent presence on the field for the Aztecs, he struggled mightily with his accuracy.

Still, when Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt saw Lindley still available in the sixth round, he trusted not only the draft board but also his gut instinct on the potential of the young signal caller.

"This year [Lindley] lost his receivers," Whisenhunt told Arizona Sports 620's Doug & Wolf Tuesday. "He wasn't as productive this season, but he's been a productive college quarterback and he's a big guy that can move so when you come to that point in the draft and you see him on your board and he's sticking out and his measurable, his height, his size, his speed, his arm strength, they were all good."

For Whisenhunt, the opportunity to draft and cultivate a quarterback with Lindley's skills, makeup and upside was too tempting a prospect to pass up.

"Then you look at his production in that offense, it was good and then you think about the quarterback position in this league and having to try to develop young guys, that's what kind of came together and why we picked him where we did," Whisenhunt explained.

Whisenhunt is interested in getting his first glimpse of Lindley in camp over the coming weeks and monitoring the growth of his young quarterback under the watchful eye of new quarterbacks coach John McNulty.

"I am anxious to see him in here in a couple weeks in our minicamp and see where he is and see where he can progress through training camp," Whisenhunt said.

    So...when did we drop Richard...
Bartel? I thought he was the 3rd QB and our needs were offensive linemen for coverage? Did I miss something here?

    We havent....
Bartel still there...Head scratching kind of like the Ryan Williams pick last year. That is still a wait and see if that pans out. You already have Kevin Kolb a fairly still young QB who hasnt reached any potential. Skelton, enough said. Not sure I get it. Unless internally they have just given up on Kolb all together and were just stuck and had to pay him the 7 mil. More and more that is becoming more believable.

Could care less if we drafted a QB
Just sick and tired of hearing EVERY QB over the last two years on the team has shotty footwork. Get something different, the Cardinals cannot fix QB's with bad feet. Lienart, bad feet - couldn't fix. Anderson, bad feet - couldn't fix. Kolb, bad feet - not fixed. Skelton, bad feet - not fixed. I think even boy wonder Max Hall had bad feet (and tiny hands). Give me a QB with a weak arm and great foot work that knows how to handle a huddle and I think we might have something to work with.

    Is Anyone Paying Attention?
Well let's see, Kolb is one concussion away from being out of football. Skelton is successful against sucky teams but lacks starter experience at any level and hasn't proven to have won a true big game against top teams. Plus he's still learning how check downs work. Bartel is replaceable. Some commenters on here didn't notice who we drafted cuz they still think we haven't addressed the o-line need. I'm up for whichever QB steps up and plays like a pro and puts wins on the board.

    and Ryan Williams
Williams was up for the Heisman before his injury in his sophomore year. At camp he was running FAR better than Beanie was, he's a great up.

that we will love the one that steps up and we hold no angst towards any and the best of luck to them all. But no one be surprised when the experienced, big and strong SD qb plays well and looks comfortable behind the line...yes, good luck KK, hope your health holds and watch your behind cuz theres some good competition sniffing away at you...and Skelton will have a good year.
