The Arizona Cardinals went into the offseason looking to sign defensive end Calais Campbell to a long-term deal.

Mission accomplished.

The team announced late Thursday that they and Campbell have agreed to a five-year deal that will keep the emerging star in the Valley through 2016.

Campbell, 25, is coming off a career year in which he tallied 8 sacks and 72 tackles, as well as blocked three field goals.

A third-round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, Campbell has started 46 games for the Cardinals and recorded 215 tackles, 21 sacks, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one interception.

The team had placed the "non-exclusive" franchise tag on Campbell on March 2, a move that would have kept in Arizona if a deal could not be struck, but said all along the goal was to ensure the former Miami Hurricane was a Cardinal for the foreseeable future.

    Thank God!!
Love, Love, Love Campbell's game. Guy plays beastly and the stats back that up. Want to throw out huge appreciation to this Man for all his hard work and for his future hard work. Really happy he will be a long term birdgang member.

Good for Calais Campbell. Sadly, the Cards are once again without a QB, so I don't expect much this season. We had to scrap just to break even last season. I love the team and support them, but I'm also realistic. When we had a HOF QB at the helm, we went to the postseason, end of story.

Great news because not only do we lock up another core Defensive player, it also frees up cap room to possibly bring in other players! Our QB position will be much better this season because if Kolb cannot produce, then Skelton will have full reins of the offense going into his 3rd season & then Kolb will be cut after the season.
