The Arizona Cardinals have reason for optimism.

They won seven of their last nine games in 2011. They have Larry Fitzgerald. They have an emerging defense. They play in a weak division.

Did we mention they have Larry Fitzgerald?

Anyway, even with all the positives, there are still reasons to be skeptical, which must be why NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal, in an article titled Who's next in line to win first Super Bowl title?, has the Cardinals in a group with the Vikings, Titans, Browns and Jaguars under the header "Nothing on the Horizon."

Bummer.

I've never been more sad in a Super Bowl locker room than when I talked to the Cardinals. They were all so hopeful, but I couldn't help but think that they would never get back to that point. Without a quality quarterback, they are as far away as ever. Things change fast in the NFL, but its hard to imagine these teams as serious Super Bowl contenders in the next two years.

Well Gregg, we were all pretty sad after the Super Bowl, and we understand that without good QB play the Cards will have a hard time making it back.

Still, putting them on the same level as the Jaguars and Browns? Really? The Jaguars and Browns?!

But that's neither here nor there. The point is the Cardinals, for all that there is to be excited about, are still an underdog in many peoples' eyes.

Just as they were in 2008 before, you know, that whole Super Bowl thing happened.

    GO CARDS
I will be optimistic every year. You just NEVER know. 2008 was a great year to be a relatively new fan of the Cardinals. I will never forget the elation from the die hard fans when the NFC Championship game was over. It was awesome to be at the game. I don't know why anyone (fans) would want to start a season off on a negative note. Kolb or Skelton could emerge into something wonderful. Hey, it could happen.

Good thing Rosenthal is an idiot. Nothing like some grade school booger-eater chiming in on his thought about football. He must be the pride of his geek squad at Best Buy.

    Wha?!?
We may not be Super Bowl bound yet, but we are a heck of a lot closer that the Jags and Browns. Rosenthal probably stopped watching the Cards halfway through last season, and missed out on the upswing.

    GO BIG RED
Let the haters hate; bagging on the Cards is pedantic uninspired writing at this point. Yes, yes, big suprise, you expect the 9ers to run away with the division and the Cardinals to come in with 7 to 8 wins, bla bla blaaaaa. Wake me when ESPN writes something that they haven't written 10 years running, ZZZzzzzzzZZZZ. On a side note; I don't think the NFC West is going to be considered a "weak" division after this season. I'm not saying we're going to be an AFC North but I think there's a good chance that we'll have a team fighting for the wild card spots this season.
