Rank Player Reason
#1 John Skelton
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Skelton has emerged as the favorite in the QB race.
Rank Player Reason
#2 Kevin Kolb
It's never a good thing when former Vikings great Cris Carter professes disappointment in you.

Preseason Stats

Kolb: 2-for-9 for 25 yards, 0 TD, 1 int QB Rating: 11.11

Skelton: 7-of-12 for 67 yards, 0 TD, 1 int QB Rating: 39.24

August 13

• Green: Choose Skelton and there's no going back to Kevin Kolb

• Green: Cardinals' QB Kevin Kolb not caught up in competition

They said it

"I just know that as far as favorites and longshots, really I've never thought of it in those terms. I think we just, we've always been true to what we've said and we're going to stick to the process. Kevin's going to start this week like we said, and we'll let it play itself out." -- Coach Whisenhunt on rumors of Skelton leading the race

Analysis

Two years ago Adam Schefter was first in reporting that Matt Leinart's days as a Cardinal were numbered, so it's fair to give credence to his latest report, too.

That said, just because Skelton may be the "favorite" for the job does not mean it is his -- yet. Kolb will get the start Friday against the Raiders and while it may be his last chance to prove himself to the coaches, he will have the chance.

    Flashes
Thats the thing that worries me. He got to play with most of our starting lineup against a saints team with a new DC, new schemes, and some backup players, and he was only able to show "flashes". Maybe I expect too much and he is still a year or two away from being a dependable starter

    1 pre-seaon game. Kolb.....
..did not show signs of a starting QB. It was just one game. Those who want Kolb gone are not using there head. There are 4, count them 4 pre-season games. Kolb is paid for, let them run him into the ground, and if he fails say goodbye. If you get rid of him you have a possible second coming of DA, Bartel, and what appears to be a FUTURE starting QB. A capable starting QB is not going to be released. Everyone stop calling for Kolbs head. 3 games are left. Skelton did not look as good as some say, he just did not make a glaring mistake. Wait till September, this will likely be a lost year.

    Kolb
I have always been a Kolb supporter but if he doesn't impress anyone in this Friday's game I honestly believe he will be let go. The Cardinals will take the loss and go with Skelton, Bartel and Lindley.

Kolb, isnt the problem. He is just the pawn.
I havent been shy on my opinions on signing or keeping Kolb. As many of you know, I am not a Kolb fan. I think he tries, but has never had the talent, brains or the physicality to play every day in the NFL. When are they going to get rid of the people who make these stupid decisions? How many bad choices do you get until you are deemed incompetent? I am sick of hearing about Graves being good. Yeah, he sells tickets, makes money for Bidwell. But he cant win! Sorry, but the record speaks for itself.

    Kolb not a fit...yet
Kolb was not a fit to begin with. He was a west coast system QB with a bad habbit of scrambing to the right. AZ doesn't run the wc offense, and the Cards didn't change the offense. They expected Kolb to adapt. Skelton has been able to adapt his play from a small college shot gun spread offense, to an under center pocket passer with a good feel for AZ's offensive line. The oline doesn't play better for Skelton, his movement just makes it look like they block better. For Skelton, it's accuracy that is now needed, while Kolb is still working on pocket footwork.
