Whatever you do, please don't read too much into this next sentence:

John Skelton will get the start at quarterback for the Cardinals Friday against the Chiefs.

Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt announced the decision Tuesday, according to AZCardinals.com's Darren Urban.

It has been the plan all along.

Skelton and Kevin Kolb are battling it out to be the team's starting QB this season, with Kolb getting the start last Sunday against the Saints. The plan all along has been to alternate between the signal callers, so this latest news should come as little surprise.

This is a big moment for Skelton, who enters the game presumably with the lead in the QB race. A good performance could really put him in the driver's seat, whereas a bad one may allow Kolb to regain the edge.

How do you not read into this...
If Kolb was the #1 starter with no question, Skelton would not be starting. Kolb has had enough time to learn the offense, he just isn't good enough to be an NFL starter.

If Kolb isn't good enough to be the starter (im not sure if I disagree with you) shouldn't we be concerned then with Skelton. If Skelton can't beat out Kolb and Kolb stinks, we are in for a long season.

Kolb wasn't the #1 starter without question. There has been an open competition since the beginning of camp. The plan all along was to have Skelton start game 2, that was even before the injury to Kolb. I agree with you that Kolb is starting to look like maybe he isn't cut out to be a starter in this league.

I was really rooting for Kolb, but at some point the injuries stop becoming an excuse and start becoming one of the main reasons that the Cards can't rely on him. At this point, lets name Skelton the starter, so at least we can build some offensive consistency going into the regular season.

Since when has Kolb been the #1 starter with no question? Whiz said it was a QB competition long before OTA's started. Therefore, common sense dictates this is not news worth reading into. almost2009 is right. For a guy as awful as many want to say Kolb is, Coach Whiz doesn't have a whole lot of confidence in Skelton, otherwise why a competition. Just read sundevil7901 - spot on.

If Kolb was making the same money...
as Skelton, Skelton would be the starter. The fact that the Cards invested so much into Kolb is the reason why there was an "open" competition. You don't pay a backup QB $20 mil over 2 years to sit behind a 5th round draft pick. You give him every opportunity to get that job, but Kolb hasn't beat out Skelton. I'm not a big fan of Skelton either, but if Kolb was the QB of the future and proved it to the staff, Skelton would not be starting any of the first 3 preseason games.

Cardinals management needs to realize they paid way too much for Kolb and give him the gate. Seriously folks, an injury on the first snap of the hall of fame preseason?! The longer they keep having faith in this guy the longer they will remain outside the playoffs. Kevin - take your $$ and retire.

    Regardless of who starts..
..if Skelton keeps up the momentum up thoughout camp and Kolb continues to faulter, then he's earned the spot. I'd be interested to see if Coach Whiz will sandbag Skelton in order to justify Kolb. You never know when this much is on the line.

Use your head if you dont understand why if Kolb is not good enough, as why he continues to get an opportunity...Look what has been invested in him!!! No one wants to look like a complete idiot in regards to this deal and if he is backing up Skelton that 7 mil roster bonus looks like a great descision. Skelton is still a little rough around the edges but, we can win with him.

    Kolb is tender
This is not meant to be insulting, it's fact. I've played on the defensive line starting in high school and whenever there is an opportunity to put a lick on a QB, you take it. Skelton has a body that can take it, Kolb can't. The Cards need to develop a starter that can play a minimum of 15 games a year to be successful.
