Kevin Kolb knows it's time for him to step up and win the starting quarterback job for the Arizona Cardinals outright.

Still, he isn't putting much stake into the competition between himself and teammate John Skelton. Instead, he is focused on improving his own game.

"For me it's just making myself a better player," Kolb said. "I don't necessarily get caught up in day-to-day, how did John do? How did I do? Obviously at this point, we want to get better."

Kolb acknowledged the mistakes he has made in the pocket and admits he's struggled getting comfortable in there.

"It's always a constant battle, as far as trusting it long enough to stay in there and make that throw and then getting out and making a play, as well," Kolb stated.

While he's disappointed at his performance thus far, the 27-year-old signal caller isn't panicking.

"The thing is, the end is the beginning because whoever gets named the starter, strap up and get ready to roll because you've got 16 games," Kolb said. "You can't look too far forward, you just keep pressing day-by-day, that's the way it works in this league."

As Kolb and the Cardinals look to right the ship going forward, the key for the quarterback and his offense will be maintaining their composure while working tirelessly to prove themselves.

"You can't panic but there's got to be a sense of urgency and I think that's right where we are at," Kolb said. "I think we know how good we are, we just have to put it together and the only way you do that is by hard work, determination and focus is a big thing."

    Competition
Everyone knows I have always been a Kolb supporter but if he doesn't impress anyone in this Friday's game I honestly believe he will be let go. The Cardinals will take the loss and go with Skelton, Bartel and Lindley. I do think Kolb is the better QB at this time but he just doesn't act like he wants to be here or even cares.

...who the QB is, I just want to see this team get back to the playoffs. If it's with Kolb? Great. Skelton? That's great too. The problem i see with Kolb is what a lot of people see. Not stepping up in the pocket and instead continuing to run away. And he does seem to get hurt more than Skelton. But again, I just wish one of these guys would TAKE the starting job, instead of Whiz giving it to the one who sucked least.

    @ Competition
There's no way the Cards are going to release Kolb if he doesn't perform well this next preseason game. They have too much invested in him to can him because he hasn't done well in preseason games.

    Not caught up in it?
He doesn't seem to be caught up in any kind of competition. Max Hall might have not been a good enough QB for the NFL, but at least the guy cared. Where is the passion and fire that should lead this team? Having grace and class ala Kurt Warner is one thing. But you can be DANG sure Warner wanted to win, and that competition mattered to him. That showed in his performance. Kolb just look apathetic in every way. Just go away Kolb....

Of course there's no need to panic. Even if he gets cut he has millions guaranteed. John looked better. But he still has a problem with accuracy when hes hurried on his feet. He should have just scrambled with that big ole body of his. Lindley has a certain appeal to him. He should start with the 1ones including byrd just to see what happens and to see if were not missing something Herr. But if this offense wants to see the QB improve, the running backs and defense have to dominate.

    ROOMSTORE COMMERCIALS
If Kolb can't cut the mustard this Friday I heard they are taking auditions for a Roomstore commercial. Hey even Matt Lienart was able to do that. Better if he is cut anyway, because The Wizz's nose is getting redder every passing week. To much stress for the Wizz. He too said he's layin down the law. Can't wait to watch this game. RAIDERS WIN 38-16------------AT THE ROOOOOOOOMSTORE Go Kolb

for the back up role. Skelton will win the job, but Kolb won't be released after getting a 7 million bonus, he will be the back up with Lindley 3rd string. Since Skelton is still in his rookie contract the average of all the QB's salary is not that bad. Most backups will make more than Skelton and Lindley combined. Kolb will be released after this season. I read that Coach Whiz said Lindley has improved a lot, but he is not ready to compete for the starting job. So I guess once Lindley can at least go 1/4 for 21 yards as a starter he can compete.

    Maybe he should be...
For someone who just cashed a $7mil check to say he isn't caught up in a competition for the right to earn that paycheck is disgusting! His noncommittal is evident on the fact that he can't stay on the field and when he is, spends the whole time running for his life! Get a clue Whiz... you have a $7mil backup at best!
