The Arizona Cardinals needed Kevin Kolb or John Skelton to step up and win the quarterback competition Thursday night against the Titans.

But Kolb, like his counterpart, failed to stand out and take control of the Cardinals' offense in the latest episode of this ongoing quarterback saga.

The 27-year-old finished the night completing 17-of-22 passes for 156 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.

Kolb again looked scared in the pocket and continued his trend of inconsistent play.

With a drive that resulted in a three-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Andre Roberts to end the first half, Kolb gave a glimpse of hope to Cardinals fans who have been clamoring for him to win the quarterback job outright.

Despite the fact that Kolb put up the best numbers he has so far this preseason, the two picks he threw were arguably the worst of the game.

One thing is for certain, Kolb didn't go out and win the quarterback job Thursday. In fact, it appeared he was doing everything in his power to lose it.

    The good
The good I got out of tonight's game is that Whiz showed he's open to what I've suggested previously, going hurry up offense in non hurry up situations. I felt this was there best hope to make up for their bad line before Brown went down with injury, and since his injury I felt it was pretty much essential. Honestly, at this point I don't care whose QB, the only way I see any of our QBs staying healthy, let a lone having success, is if we stick with the hurry up for the entire game.

    Really?
Aside from 2 bone-headed picks, Kolb looked good, best performance of the pre-season for him IMO. you obviously discount the fact that after each pick, he bounced back and led scoring drives (5/5 pass on the first, 8/9 on the second). I don't care who wins this QB thing, I have no favorite, as long as AZ wins. But let's give the man SOME credit, geez

    Disagree
For the most part, I have found myself agreeing with Daria's posts, but theres a few things here i disagree strongly on. Yes, Kolb made two horrible throws (and a few more that fell incomplete or miraculously caught). There was a lot that I was impressed by tho. I thought he did look MUCH better moving around the pocket in the hurryup/shotgun. Even his scrambles tho looked more confident. If this was his performance in game 1, this preseason would have gone a lot differently. This is something to build on - is it too late tho?

    The Hurry-Up
DantheTimid makes a good point about the hurry-up and Kolb's effectiveness when they ran it. In fact, recall a few years back when the Leinart was "starting", they brought in Warner in those hurry-up situations and it worked well... it kind of opened the door for Warner to be the starter. You can't run that offense all the time but at least they moved the freakin' ball when they used it. And I'll state the obvious: the O-line is a real liability right now.

    Uh!
really don't know what game you were watching, although Kolb made 2 boneheaded int's he clearly in my mind showed he is the much more capable and seasoned quarterback. How you can say he didn't out perform Skelton is beyond me. Kolb at least can read a defense and not lock on one reciever constantly like Skelton. Skelton had at least 3 or 4 plays where Fitz was very open and waiting for the ball to no avail.

beyond the QB's the main problem here, and has been since Warner retired, and really even before then is you have a head coach who can't see the forest for the trees. When Kurt was the QB he covered up all the inefficiencies of the poorly coached offensive line, now theses QB's just are not at a level to be able to do that. Mr. Grimm just hasn't and doesn't get the best out of his offensive lines and they are an underperforming liability. Whiz needed to make a coaching change long ago but refuses to because of their relationship. Won't change unfortunately until Whiz is removed !

The O line is undercoached. Needs a coaching change, but, wont happen until Whiz is gone. The best coaches in foot ball say it - "JUST DO YOUR JOB!". Grimm, is not, doing his job....

    RIGHT BRAIN-LEFT BRAIN
Clearly, Whiz is not a creative guy. Clearly, he values the"system" over his players strengths. Warner had to fight to get Whiz to let go of his "System" and the team benefited. The "O"line is a huge liability and the inactivity on bringing in a talented left tackle is clearly "system related"...its a Grimm outlook for Cards Fans hoping for so much more.
