This is the time of year when NFL teams start trimming their rosters, and there are always some recognizable names among those cut.

One of the latest to hit the streets is (now) former Redskins tight end Chris Cooley, who was released Tuesday after spending eight seasons in the nation's capital.

There are bound to be teams interested in the 30-year-old, who enters this season the owner of 428 receptions and 33 touchdowns throughout his career, but could the Arizona Cardinals be one of them?

NFL.com writer Gregg Rosenthal proposes as much, listing the Cards as one of six teams that could have interest in the veteran.

The Cardinals aren't afraid to give guys second chances. Jeff King and Todd Heap are atop their depth chart. Cooley is a better version of the same idea.

Rosenthal's reasoning is sound, you know, if you figure the Cardinals abide by the "no amount of tight ends is ever too many tight ends" theory that has never been practiced.

Because not only do the Cardinals have Heap and King on the roster, but they have promising second-year pro Rob Housler as well as Steve Skelton, too.

So in short, there is not exactly much of a need at the position for a guy who has missed 20 games over the last three seasons -- as Cooley has -- even if the Cards are fond of giving guys second chances.

    te depth
would like to see cooley here - think hes a very good guy to have on a team. but, we NEVER use our tight ends. heap is way under utilized, housler doesnt get chances. isnt jim drey still on our team too? Could care less about steve skelton - havent seen anything from him that would signify anything more than him being johns brother. i think king would have to go if we sign cooley

    What?!
Can he play a good offensive tackle? Can he effectively prepare a offensive line or coach them play well? No? No. Okay, move the freak on! COME ON KTAR! Can't you lead this horse to a lake of water? A drink of Cooley-aide isn't gna fix anything. You understand that the offensive line is holding back everybody including the QBs and TEs, right? RIGHT?

Enough with these misleading headlines. "Cardinals have interest in TE Cooley?" . Click the article, waste your time to read "No, not really." I've had enough of this garbage. Are you journalists or TMZ? Step your game up because these tactics are going to lose readers.

    O Line Destination Point
I've contributed this observation for two years on various AZ Cardinal's sites, so maybe this will be the charm. As many others have observed, our o line is below standard. I believe the front office needs to step up and decide to hire a dynamic o line coach who can manifest a culture that makes the Cardinals a destination point for the top talent offensive linemen of the NFL. This coach needs to be a FIRE personality that balances Wiz's ICE, just like Ray Horton's FIRE does on defense. Get the coach and draft and acquire free agents who will thrive in such a system.

    Green has to go...
Adam Green is responsible for these misleading articles 95% of the time. I'm not sure what he brings to KTAR, but his bosses need to hold this guy accountable for the garbage he puts out.

While I partially agree, I do think hes in a lose lose situation. If he doesnt post these, people will complain about lack of coverage and content. What I do think lacks is analysis to back up the stories. Overall, the website as a whole needs to be restructured. There needs to be differentiation between rumors, commentary, and news.

    It's all about the "?"
Slap a "?" at the end of the title, and it's a license to speculate away about anything. In fairness to Green, it's an industry-wide practice, although still misleading.
