A month ago, for whatever reason, Kevin Kolb was not very popular in Phoenix.

He had just lost his starting job to John Skelton. Heck, in the first game of the season, Kolb was booed by fans at University of Phoenix Stadium when he entered the game for an injured Skelton in the fourth quarter.

You know what's happened since then. Kolb has helped the Cardinals to their first 4-0 start since the Ford administration, and is in the top ten in the NFL in quarterback rating -- ahead of the Mannings, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees and Joe Flacco just to name a few.

Cardinal fans aren't exactly waving Kolb flags and anointing him as the savior of the franchise, but they recognize what the sixth-year signal caller has done to help his team.

But not everyone is on the Kolb bandwagon just yet. Enter eight-time Pro Bowler and current ESPN talking head Cris Carter, who had some interesting comments about the Cardinals' quarterback on ESPN Radio's Mike & Mike Show Monday morning.

"They've kind of put the clamps on him and he's kind of a game manager," Carter said. "They've got Larry Fitzgerald, and they're afraid to throw the football."

The Cardinals maybe 4-0 with Kevin Kolb but ESPN analyst Cris Carter hasn't been impressed with the QB
Huh? The game manager part might not be far off, but let's keep in mind that Fitzgerald was targeted 15 times in Sunday's win over Miami and is tied for 11th in the league in targets through four weeks. Kolb threw 48 passes Sunday, completing 29 for 324 yards and three touchdowns. Only three other quarterbacks threw more than Kolb in Week 4 -- Brandon Weeden, Matthew Stafford and Drew Brees -- and all three were losers.

Carter was asked if he thought Kolb's job was safe once Skelton returns to health from the ankle injury he sustained in Week 1 against Seattle.

"I'd be shocked if he's still the starter."

"The problem when you look at Kolb, Kolb looks like a backup," Carter said. "He doesn't look like a starter. And ever since he's been in Arizona, which is a brief time, there's never been impressive things said about him."

It's comments like these that make you wonder what some people see when they are watching football.

Watching CC now on MNF pre game. He's a buffoon. He's right sometimes but still a buffoon.

    Really?
I wonder if some of these pundits really watch all the games, and sometimes just keep regurgitating what they know or have heard from the past... Sounds like a very simplistic, outdated analysis.

    No problem with CC's comments
Once Kolb is more consistant...he'll get more respect. Until then, I can't blame anyone for having doubts. I do & I'm a season ticket holder.

    im a skelton fan
But ill admit that even though they both haven't wowd me, I still believe they're both "good enough". As far as who should start when Skelton is healthy? That's only a question Whiz can answer. My personal opion is that the better QB should start. I'm not a huge stat guy. The only numbers that matter to me is the numbers in the W column. I don't care who it takes to get thos wins, just as long that they are getting them. I also understand that they aren't gna win all the time. It's gna b tuff.

    Carter's just a punk
There are ver FEW analysts and insiders that know what they're talking about...Cris is not one of them...no further comment. I'll leave it at that. He's not worth it

    Sorry...
I'm a vocal critic of Kolb and his play on the field has been less than ideal. However, let's face it, starting a season 4-0 doesn't just happen with any regularity for the majority of the teams in the NFL. Kolb's play has earned himself more play. If there was another option besides Skelton, I'm all ears, but there isn't.

    Kolb
Kolb has played better than most think.. His QB rating is better than most and this is with a horrible O-line and no running game. Romo just threw 4 or 5 interceptions tonight and this is with a pretty good O-line. Look at Matt Ryan, he is just starting to come around and he was named the starting QB of the Falcons in 2008. The Cardinals have no love from anyone in the media. I'm telling you... Kolb is a very good QB... It takes time ... if you think anything different you know nothing about football.

I don't understand these skeptics. Kolb rose in a time of need and we won. You can't take a bad pick and say he doesn't look like a starter, are you for real? If Kolb didn't play like a starter we would have lost. Defense did not win us that game... Oh, that end zone pick, just pause it when Kolbs arm is in mid swing, looks like Fitz could jump in front of the corner easy, but he was shoved off balance. If not Fitz would have bagged that. (Not smart given the position though i'll admit). It will take to the post season for anyone to accept that we are for real. Shock the world, again.

    Just a talking head
He is just a talking head. When I was watching Monday night football, I was thinking that they need to let this dude go. (ESPN) but it is what it is. The outsiders are waiting for the Cards to fail. Just keep winning and they wont have anything to say.
