You could argue that nobody is as dialed in to what happens in the NFL more than Peter King of Sports Illustrated.

Every week King issues his Monday Morning Quarterback column which is, quite simply, a must read for NFL fans everywhere.

But in the course of reading his 8,500-word epic, maybe missed the fact that King has listed his "top ten NFL assistants who will get sniffs for head coaching jobs in the league next year."

Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton showed up on the list -- at number eight.

It's somewhat surprising that Horton is that low on the list. The St. Louis Rams interviewed Horton last offseason for their vacant head coaching job before choosing Jeff Fisher for the post.

And despite Arizona's current seven-game losing streak, Horton's defense has been the strong point of the team, ranking seventh in the league in yardage allowed and 11th in points allowed.

Interestingly, another familiar name appears on the list ahead of Horton. Former ASU head coach Dirk Koetter, now the offensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons, appears at number five.

Over the last 3 years Whiz continues to go on these long losing streaks which kills any confidence you want to have in him (finishing last or 2nd to last in total offense each year). Horton has more to offer this team with his unit than Whiz with his. That is why Im for keeping Horton at all costs even if it means making him HC. Bidwills know they have to upgrade the O Line and get a Franchise QB. Once they have that, any O Coor can take over and have immediate success. Im not interested in letting Horton go because his system works. The players buy into it & theyre doing a good job with it.

Horton's future with the defense looks great. They played well last half of last year and they're playing very well now being #7 in total defense #22 in run defense and #4 in pass defense. But Whiz's future with the offense is uncertain based on whats happened so far. They've finished last or 2nd to last in all categories the last 3 yrs. NOW they are most likely gna upgrade the line & try & get a franchise QB. But its concerning it took him this long 2 figure that out given how they finished all those years. What do the next 3 years have in store for our offense under Whiz?

Yes, he's done more with the D than MILLER has with the offense. Which was my point. We should have hired Haley as the O-Coordinator. Whiz doesn't call the offensive plays, Miller does. And I agree with you that we should keep Horton at all costs, but I don't think he's got the material to be a head coach. He's a very good coordinator. The Y variable here is injuries. We've been hammered with the injury bug this year. Whiz has the most wins of any Cards HC ever. Maybe you forgot Buddy Ball or Denny Green, but I haven't. Keep Whiz, give him a chance to fix HIS team.
