The Arizona Cardinals claimed quarterback Brian Hoyer on waivers Monday, according to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Hoyer, a fourth-year pro from Michigan State, was waived by the Pittsburgh Steelers last week. In his NFL career with New England and Pittsburgh, Hoyer has completed 27-of-43 passes for 286 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He's played in 13 NFL contests (only one in the last two seasons) and has not started a game in the league.

Hoyer started for more than two seasons at Michigan State, throwing for 6,159 yards and 35 touchdowns.

The Cardinals have had their quarterback issues this season with Kevin Kolb missing the last seven games with a rib injury. Veteran John Skelton and rookie sixth-round draft choice Ryan Lindley have struggled mightily in his absence. The duo has combined for two touchdown passes and 14 interceptions in that span.

To make room for Hoyer, center Rich Ohrnberger was placed on injured reserve. Ohrnberger suffered a knee injury in Sunday's loss to Seattle.

    who do they cut?
cut skelton- look very foolish- cut Kolb- lose millions- cut Lindley- wasted draft pick. back to being a joke of a franchise.

They didnt cut anyone - They put Rich on IR and will carry 4 QB's right now. But if we had to, I dont think cutting Skelton or Lindley would make us look like any more of a joke than if we trotted them out there as a starter..

    Bartel?
I guess they feel like he's not the answer... He knows the system. Looked decent at times. Would've liked to see him get a shot.

    long over due
long overdue. why didnt they bring in Nick Davilla? He is the next Kurt Warner. Davilla could light it up. maybe the Cards are affraid of success.

    Rich Bartel...
...is still on the market. Why not give him a shot? Or Vince Young (who apparently wants to come here)? It worries me that Whiz's joke to the postgame press conference reporter {"Do you play?") feels legit, and the mentality of "next guy up" might lead to a Steeler castoff as our next starting QB. The only path I see is draft OL, ride Kolb next year, and if Kolb is who we think he is/gets hurt, draft the best available QB prospect 1st round.

    I like Bartell
He can come into the game and deliver a veteran presence and play at a high level. He is well liked by the players and coaches also.
