According to reports Thursday, the Arizona Cardinals had asked the Pittsburgh Steelers for permission to interview offensive coordinator Todd Haley for their head coaching vacancy.

Haley was the offensive coordinator in Arizona for the 2007 and 2008 seasons before leaving to be the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, and he made some sense as a candidate.

However, early Friday a report circulated that Haley had not yet agreed to speak with the Cardinals, perhaps in part because of his affinity for working for the Steelers.

According to Arizona Sports 620's Paul Calvisi, it looks like you can disregard that report.

The Cardinals are currently scheduled to chat with Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy Saturday, and as of yet nothing is known to be on the docket with Haley.

That may change shortly.

    Such a great opportunity
that he has not even agreed to be interviewed yet. Could it be that nobody but Horton even wants to coach this sorry franchise?

    Its such a mess here
It may be that way because Bidwill doesnt want to give up full control to a coach and/or GM to do whatever it takes to win. Obviously thats what Reid wanted and the Chiefs probably gave him that (hence Chiefs and Pioli "mutually" parting ways). But Haley should be the last choice on earth for the Cardinals to be Head Coach. Maybe a OC if Horton can't get who he's after. But Bidwill just needs to give Horton the job and try and hire McCoy from Denver as Horton's assistant HC and OC. A College HC straight to NFL HC (without any NFL experience) will probably will not work for anybody.

You have no idea, almost all teams have GM's & a HC, not a HC who is also the GM, it just doesn't work well. A GM sees the team from 10,000 feet up where as a HC sees it from the field level. Keep the jobs separate. As soon as Reid got all the power the Eagles started getting worse, same with Whiz.

    Baby Bidwill, DON'T DO IT....
Haley isn't a good fit. Don't do it. The lousy sports reporters in AZ might like him because of his volatility. (it gives them things to write about). By the way, where has that hack Bickley been since the firing of Coach Whiz? No articles at all. Barkley was right. That guy is the worse sports reporter on the planet.

    Holmgren
Mike Holmgren also had the same problem. Great Head coach but not so great GM. Just look at how Bad Cleveland is. KC will suck for years to come. Glad KC got him and not the Cards. Hire Horton and Let him hire his own guys. Probably knows a bunch of guys just like himself.

    Reid
The Cardinals did NOT pass on Reid because he wanted too much control and they weren't willing to give it up. EVERYONE knows how Reid operates. They wouldn't have scheduled an interview if they had a problem with his style. That is ridiculous to even think. He was simply using AZ as leverage, just like a couple of QBs have done in the past. He wanted KC, but wanted them to jump up and make an offer sooner rather than explore other (cheaper) options.

Calvisi, did you ever bother to talk to Haley? All you ever report is hear say.

All these talking heads sing the praises of McCoy & Haley! So tell me how hard is it to be an OC with Warner, Big Ben or Peyton?? Tell us how good Haley was when he had Matt the hottub king?

Haley Interview a waste of time
This is the next best option Bidwell comes up with, Todd Haley? I bet Ray Horton is laughing to himself. He'd definitely hightail it out of AZ for another HC gig if Haley was to get it. Ray Horton has to be thinking something like: "They're going to make this guy an offer over ME?" Now I don't think Bidwell is even trying. Despite being an Offensive..can't really call him a guru, but knowledgable, just an idiotic move.

    Horton
will likely not be a HC this year. Clearly his demand has slowed in pursuit of offensive/innovative options. So I can't blame Bidwill for continuing his hunt for offensive help. This team needs offense!
