On Tuesday afternoon, NFL Network analyst Kurt Warner joined Arizona Sports 620's Doug & Wolf to discuss his former team and the changes it has made.

Warner -- being the player and man that he is -- had strong feelings towards the hiring of Steve Keim and firing of his former coach, Ken Whisenhunt.

He understood the due process of head coaching positions in the NFL, and knew the reasoning behind the Cardinals' immediate actions after a second 5-11 season in three years.

"When you're struggling, that's what people are going to remember first," Warner said for the reason behind Whisenhunt's firing, amongst others across the league. "That's obviously why he (Whisenhunt) doesn't have a job here in Arizona."

While the firing was rightfully earned in Warner's eyes, he says it doesn't deplete the value of Whisenhunt's stock.

"Look what coach Whisenhunt did here with this organization. No success for however long, he comes in, turns it around, wins a couple division championships, goes to the Super Bowl," Warner said. "(He) did some amazing things that nobody has really done here before. That to me is why you have to give a strong look to somebody like Coach Whisenhunt."

Outside of Whisenhunt and the Cardinals, the other six head coaching vacancies came due to lackluster performances throughout -- or to close out -- the season.

What does he think of the AZ Cardinals hiring Steve Keim as general manager? Whom would Warner look to hire for the Cards' head coach position?
Warner says it is all part of the program.

"It's unfortunate, but that's what happens in the business," he said. "When you lose and you get fired, people are going to remember that first."

However, he believes Whisenhunt and former Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith are two coaches still available that any NFL team should jump at having.

"They're great head coaches and should be hot commodities because of what they bring to the table," Warner said.

    I dont think
Warner realizes that HE IS THE REASON for Whiz's success. BIG BEN IS the reason for Whiz's success. Whiz has yet to pick a QB, develop that QB, and win playoff games in that order. Andy Reid was a hot commodity. If Whiz were a hot commodity, he would have been hired by now. Given a good to great QB, anybody (including Whiz) can win games.

Fitz Hero enough with the Whisenhunt bashing
The cards have been here 25 seasons. Only six times have they posted a .500 or better mark. Four of those six were under Whisenhunt. I know you will say Warner did it himself, but... Why didn't Warner take NY or AZ to the bowl under Coughlin or Green. Surely NY had the talent Eli has two rings. Did Warner decide to suck for 5yrs in the middle of his career, and then pull a jk and decide to play like a HOFer again??? Fans were clamoring for Leinart over Warner intially, and you were probably one of them.

    Classy guy
Kurt Warner is a classy guy and I would expect nothing less than kind words and respect for the coach that took the team to the Super Bowl. Regardless of whether Warner himself deserves the majority of the credit for reaching the post season, he is humble and will share the credit with his coaches and teammates.

    Not all Warner
If it was all because of Warner, how come Warner wasn't able to take Denny Green to the Super Bowl???

    Warner Classy
Have to agree with Apollogirl and further, to another story on this site about Haley and his abrasiveness towards players, Warner had his run-in's with Haley but always downplayed them in the media. I'm pretty sure Warner realizes he was the biggest reason for the Super Bowl run (along with Fitz and Q) but is just too professional and classy to say it publicly.

    Yeah Warner knows.
He was fired because he didn't have a QB that ran the offence without needing Whisenhunt's stupidity.

    Agree
Warner is a class act. Whisenhunt COULD NOT evaluate talent. If he would have not been fired, season ticket holders would have dropped like flies.

I cant believe you took the time to make a name to mock me! All of that for me? Awww, Im flattered that you think of me that much! Im sorry that it upsets you that I bash Whiz so much. If he didnt suck so bad I wouldnt. But he couldnt evaluate talent or develop players, and in my book if you cant do that as a HC, then you suck and deserve to be fired...
