Reports on Monday indicated that the Arizona Cardinals wanted to interview Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy for a second time.

Not so fast.

It appears the Cardinals will not get a second chance to talk with McCoy.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports Tuesday the San Diego Chargers, who spoke with McCoy for the first time the previous day, are about to finalize a deal with the coach.

McCoy was the only known interview for the Cardinals this week.

As the Cardinals' coaching search enters week three, the team has talked with McCoy, defensive coordinator Ray Horton, Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden and unofficially, Todd Haley, whom the Pittsburgh Steelers said the Cardinals were interviewing.

Gruden, Haley and Horton are all still on the market for a head coaching job.

    Cards let him Slip away..
First Reid, now McCoy...doesn't even fly out to AZ for a 2nd interview, because San Diego probably knew that the Cardinals were going to make an offer to McCoy most likely. Which is why AZ should have jumped on him before he even interviewed with San Diego. Cardinals unable to catch a break, but it's their own fault. Screw it, just go with Ray Horton at this point. I'd have more confidence in Horton than Jay Gruden, despite his progress in Cincinatti and with Andy Dalton.

Cards are not proactive and aggressive enough if reid or McCoy were truely their targets. They needed to fly to Denver in their private plane, bring him to AZ & not let him leave without making a deal. SD did it, and those teams who are serious about getting who they want do it. AZ is the least desireable team, so they must be agressive and/or overpay if they want a quality coach to come here.

    Yeah well
this was obvious! Our QB situation surely does not help any of this. Plus the AFC West division is much easier than the NFC West now.

    Todd Haley
I personally would rather have Todd Haley than McCoy. Haley & Horton would be a 1, 2 punch, but who knows whats going on with Haley. I also hope they DO NOT bring in Jay Gruden .............

    Mccoy
I will be glad if SD signs him. As many positives as I read about him, I just couldnt get over a feeling that he was more luck than innovation. Maybe its the Manning factor - I dont know. Horton feels much more comfortable and like a better fit - but it does worry me if the reports are true that he wants to bring in two of his Pittsburgh buddies as OC/DC. Granted it could turn out to be a success like when Ray came over, but it just FEELS stale and reminiscent of the old regime.

    Haley
Read reports that Haley came into AZ to interview but his "demands" were extremely high - he is happy enough in Pitt that he doesnt want to leave unless it is a perfect scenario. (link: http://tinyurl.com/d5f4te3)

    HALEY next best option.
Maybe he learned something from his first head coaching job in KC. Horton is a good option only if he can bring a top OC. Which at this point the only one qualified for that is Wiz who the Cards just fired.

This job must really suck. These guys either think the Cards are a joke or have very little chance of fixing the offense. At this rate you almost have to wonder if they're ever going to find a coach! Sorry Ray Horton, you might get the job by default...

    Not surprised...
Our offensive situation is not attractive for anybody AND Bidwill probably wasnt agressive enough either. I like Horton anyway. With his defensive mind he knows the offenses weaknesses and he'll be able to address them in the draft and FA. Theres no question, our defense is NFC WEST playoff calibur defense. When the offensive needs are addressed by Horton, WHOEVER is OC, will come in and have immediate success. I'm curious to see, not only what Horton does, but what the Cardinals do about QB. I dont think anyone has given up on Kolb, but he cant stay healthy for more than a half a season.
