When the Arizona Cardinals named Steve Keim the team's new general manager, the decision was met with nearly universal praise.

Keim, who had been Arizona's vice president of player personnel, is highly-regarded in NFL circles and viewed as a quality hire for Cardinals president Michael Bidwill.

And if a ProFootballTalk report is to be believed, Bidwill landed Keim on the cheap.

Rumors are making the rounds that Steve Keim will be making roughly $750,000 as the Cardinals' new G.M., which would make him the lowest-paid General Manager in the league.

As far as reporting goes, ProFootballTalk is right about as often as it's wrong. The idea that Keim is being paid less than any other GM would fit with the idea that Bidwill is conducting his searches -- for GM and possibly coach -- with an eye on the bottom one, which is an assertion that has little backing to go off.

And, as was reported Wednesday, ProFootballTalk appears to be wrong on this one.

So there you go. Nothing to see here.

    Maybe but he's unproven
So Keim is the lowest paid GM. I'm sure he will scrimp and save to make it work. In the mean time he needs to prove himself by solving the QB, OL issues, preparing for the draft and filling the vacant coaching staff openings. As it is now he has no leverage, let's see what he can do.

    Keim
Without any knowledge of NFL contracts - especially those of GM - I would guess that perhaps Keim took a more "backloaded" contract knowing full well there was another GM/Coach still on the books for this year.

    What's the surprise?
When you first get hired, you start at minimum wage and work your way up. That's how it's done until you're proven. When he does something, give him a bonus or a raise.

    Pay off Whiz
The HC pay will one of the lowest also. Probably why McCoy balked. Gotta pay off Whiz. Isn't a surprise with the Bidwills.

Smells like a typical Bidwill deal..

    Hmm
McCoy didn't come to AZ because the AFC West is much easier to win, he has a franchise QB with Rivers, & he's near the beach! As far as Keim goes, it's a promotion from an internal employee not to mention he doesn't have to move. He'll get a new deal once we make the playoffs again!

    Context would be nice
If he makes 750k and he's the lowest paid, what's the gap between him and those right above him? Is he making 100k less than the next guy, 15k, etc?

    You get
what you pay for. This is going back to the same old Cardinals. We got lucky with Warner for a few years but it is apparent that this team will never actually be relevant without the Bidwills selling the team. I hope I am wrong but I wonder why I have wasted so much of my life being a fan of this team (and only this team). So much disappointment.

    Inside Info
Keim has been around a long time within the Cardinals Organization, I have heard this from someone who was just let go. He's not innocent in the collapse of the Cardinals. So if you think he is the Savior your sadly mistaken, he had his hands in picking a lot of the free agents and draft picks over the last few years. Don't expect much change.

That's not the case. He was allowed to grade them, but Whiz and Graves had last call. I'd expect quite a bit of change now that he's allowed to call the shots with Licht.
