The next candidate for the Arizona Cardinals head coaching job reportedly met with team officials on Wednesday night.

ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted Arians and the Cardinals had dinner and then continued talks about the coaching vacancy Thursday.

NFL.com insider Ian Rapoport was the first to report Wednesday that Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians, who was a finalist for the Chicago Bears opening that has since been filled by Marc Trestman, would visit with Arizona on Thursday.

Arians was the Indianapolis Colts' offensive coordinator this past season, though he was the team's head coach for 12 games while Chuck Pagano was battling leukemia. The Colts went 9-3 under Arians.

Before this season, though, Arians was the offensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now 60, he helped the team reach two Super Bowls -- winning one -- and was a favorite of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

Arians will follow Ray Horton, Jay Gruden, Todd Haley and Darrell Bevell as candidates who have interviewed with the team in the Valley.

    Ugh...another Steeler?
Just what we need. Just hire Ray already. It's what everyone wants. Besides, if they hire someone else, he'll probably want his own staff. Which means no more Ray. Which means the Cards would have done him a disservice by not firing him with Whiz. Btw- I like the format change. Looks nice. Big thumbs up to whoever is responsible.

    Intern
Can't AZ620 send some intern out to spy on the dinner. See if the parties are yucking it up or if it's solemn. If TMZ can find Tebow at PVCC... #Journalism

    Horton
Hire him and stop all this jacking around with offensive guys. Whiz was an offensive guy and he couldn't do anything right after Warner left. Let's see what Norv can do.

    Lose Horton
Everyone talks so much about losing Horton and the Cards should hire him as HC. Why doesn't anyone notice he isn't in the running for any other HC positions?

    Turner
LOL Hummer71, I know right? Hook it up 620! From what I understand, Norv hasn't signed any contract and there is a link between Horton and Turner, right? Promote Horton after he says he'll target Turner. I know they've agreed in principle, but they haven't announced anything yet. I like Turner/Horton, I'm afraid it's going to be Arians/Bowles...

Arians would be a good hire
I wouldn't be upset over Horton, but who is to say he can evaluate the Qb position. Arians was 9-3 as an interim hc this season and has worked well with qbs. Horton is still under contract so bringing in someone who can help the offense will make az a better team next season.
