Former Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt has landed a new job, according to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Whisenhunt was considered for several head coaching openings, including San Diego's, but the Chargers opted to hire Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy for the post.

Whisenhunt spent six season as head coach in Arizona, leading the team to their only Super Bowl appearance following the 2008 season. With a record of 45-51, he is the winningest coach in Cardinals history.

Before becoming Arizona's head coach, Whisenhunt spent two seasons as the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator, helping the team to a victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XL.

He takes over a San Diego offense that ranked 31st in total offense (297.3 yards per game) in 2012. The only team that finished lower than the Chargers was Arizona (263.1 yards per game).

    Well they
take care of their own in the industry. Best of luck Whiz, don't screw up Rivers to much unless they'll trade him to AZ!

    Good fit!
Whiz's will have an elite QB to run his offense. This is a good hire with McCoy at the helm.

    I'm
happy for Whiz. No matter how many people talk shhhh about this guy now that he's gone (and apparently that is a lot), Whiz was the best coach this franchise ever had since they have been in AZ - and truthfully well before that too. It's not even close. Being in SD means his family and son at NAU can still be close to home. Anyway, it's freaking San Diego, who would say no to living there?

    True
Nobody is disagreeing with you PRH but then again Whiz was responsible for the players he put in at QB, RB, & addressing the O-Line. I would have liked him to have remained the HC but not with the 53 man roster authority he had. Once he got that in his contract extension, that is when we started to freefall. Now Warner leaving was huge, but 2 or 3 years to improve it & we got worse.
